Italy Grand Prix Preview

Italy Italy Track

Circuit Name: Monza
Laps: 53
Circuit Length: 5.793 km
Race Distance: 307.029 km
Lap Record: 1:21.046 - R Barrichello (2004)

The original Monza circuit was laid out in short time in the grounds of the royal palace of Monza, a short drive north-east of the great northern Italian city of Milan. Part of this race’s appeal is the circuit’s proximity to the gorgeous Italian lakes, easily reachable to the north and a wonderful haven to escape to after the mayhem of modern F1.

Monza once stretched to 10 kilometres thanks to the banked curves linked to its road course, but when it joined the World Championship in its first year it measured 6.3km and since 2000 has been at its current length of 5.793km. Despite changes to the layout over the years, names like the Lesmo Curves and the Parabolica remain spine-tinglers for drivers and spectators alike.
