2016 Run for Kids Road Closures

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation would like to advise 2016 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix ticket holders of road closures and diversions occurring in and around Melbourne CBD on 20 March.

The best way to avoid potential travel delays to the 2016 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix is to utilise public transport to the event. Travel via tram from the city to the circuit is FREE for Grand Prix ticket holders on the day the ticket is valid.

Infrastructure and road closure for the Run for the Kids event will be implemented from 9:00pm Saturday night, 19 March westbound at the Domain Tunnel.

All event related infrastructure and road closures is expected to be cleared and open by 12:30pm on Sunday 20 March. Please visit runforthekids.com.au/course-details/ for further details.

The following roads and precincts will be heavily affected by closures and diversions:

  • Domain Tunnel (inbound)
  • Monash Freeway (inbound) after Toorak Road
  • West Gate Freeway (outbound)
  • Bolte Bridge (outbound)
  • Southbank (Power Street, Alexandra Avenue, City Road, Southbank Boulevard)
  • South Wharf (Docklands)
  • Federation Square (Flinders Street, Swanston Street, St Kilda Road)
  • Linlithgow Lawn / Kings Domain

If you are travelling to the event via private vehicle we suggest the following routes:

  • From the Airport: Use CityLink and exit at Kings Way continuing south towards the circuit.
  • From the East (Monash Freeway): exit at Toorak Road and continue west towards the circuit.
  • From the West: Use the West Gate Freeway, exit at Kings Way and continue south towards the circuit.
  • From the CBD: Use King Street and Kings Way southbound towards the circuit.

The combined events have no direct impact on other major roads such as the Eastern Freeway, Hoddle Street, Punt Road, Nepean Highway or Dandenong Road. Please keep in mind that these roads are expected to be busier than usual, so ensure that you plan your journey and allow for sufficient time to reach the circuit so you don’t miss a minute of the action!
