The Industry & Innovation Precinct was set up to highlight Victoria’s outstanding contribution to the automotive, defence, aviation and advanced manufacturing industries. Its aim is to showcase the latest in Australian ingenuity and the capabilities of local industry in design, engineering and manufacturing global products.
Not only is it a way to offer our fans further insight into the unmatched sport of Formula One and the technology surrounding the sport. It is also the onsite destination for students who are part of the education program – Driving Learning. The Precinct is their destination - captivating young minds, challenging the possibilities and creating future innovators
With a focus on the next generation, all activities are designed to evoke a sense of interest for furthered study in the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Local experts are on hand promoting the vibrant and dynamic advancements happening within the sector and how and where this type of knowledge can take them professionally.
As part of the Driving Learning education program registered teachers and students will be able to attend the Industry & Innovation Precinct for free on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 March 2017. One of the focal points within the Industry & Innovation Precinct is the RMIT University Exhibit. It's an eye-opening showcase of technologies, produced by students and researchers in disciplines ranging from automotive and aerospace engineering to artificial intelligence robotics.
Come and say hello to state-of-the-art Nao humanoid robots, check out the student-built electric and petrol racing cars or find out how to 3D print body parts in full colour.
There are plenty of ways to get hands-on, from checking out the latest virtual reality to putting on a headset that will help you find out what kind of entrepreneur you are.
The ENDURANCE PROJECT is an international undertaking, celebrating the accomplishments of Formula One’s greatest innovator, Sir Jack Brabham. Through cutting edge filmmaking and Virtual Reality experiences, ENDURANCE will inspire a new generation of audiences to realise their creative potential. Students and public will be among the first in the world to experience this landmark documentary feature film and educational all-media extensions.
Australian Defence Force
Located in the Industry & Innovation Precinct, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will provide racegoers with an array of interactive ground displays.
The displays give a great insight into the people and purpose behind our Defence Force and the opportunity to try out some cool equipment.

Confederation of Australian Motor Sport
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) activation will feature all the ways students can get involved in motor sport. Students are able to set their fastest lap times on the race simulators or learn how to drive on the track in the real world by getting involved with Ricciardo’s Racers or Karting Australia. Schools will also be able to benefit from information on free CAMS F1 in Schools TM Workshops and the various guests speaking on topics such as Formula 4 and Karting Technology.
Come and check out Swinburne’s stand where you can talk to Engineering and Business students who have designed and built a racing car. You can sit in it for a photo and feel like a race car driver with our racing simulator. You can also enter our Ultimate Study Pack competition to win great prizes!
Department of Education and Training
Try your hand at racing a Sphero around a scale model of the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit or investigate one of Newton’s Three Laws! Educators from the Victorian Space Science Education Centre will provide kids and adults alike with the opportunity to program and test their robot’s path before pitting their Sphero against a competitor. Kids will also have an opportunity to explore action and reaction forces as they investigate Newton’s laws using Hot Wheels track cars.
Le Mans Go-Karts
Le Mans Go-Karts was established in 1990 and is located on a 23 acre property in Dandenong South. Le Mans is Victoria’s largest outdoor Go-Kart complex with up to 50 go-karts operating at one time over 4 tracks. Le Mans also includes state of the art Lasertag and Paintball facilities making it the ideal complex for all occasions large and small.
University of Melbourne
The MUR Motorsports exhibit will feature The University of Melbourne's 2016 race car, as well as an interactive racing simulator for you to race on! We will also have 2017 team members present and excited to chat more about the project in person.
