Tipped as a talent destined for the top, Felipe comes from a racing family and proved his potential first time out in his rookie season at last year’s Australian Grand Prix when he finished fifth on debut with Sauber.
He went on to impress with several strong showings as he scored 27 points to outdo his more experienced team-mate Marcus Ericsson who accumulated nine. He finished up 13th in the drivers’ title race.
A sensational season in the British F3 championship in 2011, when he took the championship with seven victories and 15 podiums, launched his career and he shone again in GP2 en route to a test and reserve driver’s job with Williams in F1.
Having shown what he can do with Sauber last year, much is expected this time around providing Sauber can deliver a car to match his pace.
