Biography

After a year spent learning the ropes as test and reserve driver with Lotus F1, Jolyon makes the step up to the race team this year with Renault, the French company having completed a take-over of the Enstone-based outfit. In 2015, he took part in 13 Friday practice sessions.

His father Jonathan started 82 Grands Prix in the 1980s with a range of teams including Tyrrell and Williams and went on to establish himself as a successful circuit owner and entrepreneur in British motor sport.

That pedigree suggests he was always destined to be a racing driver, but he took his time to shine and it was only in 2010, after climbing the ladder, when he became the first British F2 victor since his father in 1983, that he attracted serious notice. Four further wins helped him finish second in the series.

That led to GP2 and, with the DAMs team in 2014, he won the season opener in Bahrain, added three more victories and secured the championship with three rounds to spare. His potential was duly noted and, after a test with Force India, he was soon recruited by Lotus F1 as test driver.
