Biography

Identified by many as a future world champion, Valtteri was a non-starter at last year’s Australian Grand Prix due to a back injury that ruled him out of the race and affected him for some months afterwards.

It took him time to recover his best form, but he did so to outscore his team-mate and finish fifth in the drivers’ championship.

Fast, bold and forceful, he has all the hallmarks of a winner, even if his maiden triumph remains elusive. He scored two podiums last year, in Canada and Mexico, but was often frustrated.

Bottas began his karting career as a six-year-old child, revelled in the speed and competition and began his quest to emulate the feats of his hero two-time champion Mika Hakkinen.

“Quite simply, he is one of the most talented young drivers I have come across,” said Sir Frank Williams. “We expect great things from him.”

The future starts here for Bottas as he and Williams bid to break Mercedes’ supremacy.
