Melbourne claims pole position in 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship™ season

Melbourne will again play host to the opening round of the 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship™ on Sunday 26 March, 2017* at the iconic Albert Park Circuit.

The 2017 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix event dates are 23 - 26 March, 2017*.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott said he is thrilled Melbourne retains its position as the season-opening race and welcomed confirmation of the 26 March date*.

“The air of anticipation surrounding a brand new Formula 1®  season brings a buzz that Victorians know so well, with our great city coming alive in March and being on show to a vast global audience,” said Westacott.

“We look forward to welcoming fans, teams and drivers from all around the world to Melbourne in March,” continued Westacott.

“Fans worldwide, but especially those in Australia, will look forward to seeing how one of the most likeable drivers in Formula 1® , Daniel Ricciardo, will do in the first race of the 2017 Formula One season.”

Home favourite Daniel Ricciardo looks to start the 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship™ stronger than previous years, already proving this season that he is capable of mixing with the best.

The 2017 Formula 1®  Australian Grand Prix also marks the first time the world will see the aerodynamic improvements and new regulations permitting wider front and rear tyres, meaning faster lap times around the Albert Park Circuit than ever before.
