Megan Washington is a 2-time ARIA award winner, multi-platinum album seller, an APRA Breakthrough Songwriter, the inaugural Vanda & Young Songwriter of The Year and recipient of numerous other industry accolades for her debut album 'I Believe You Liar'.
Megan headlined the Sydney Festival and sold-out the Sydney Opera House Main Concert Hall with the ACO as her final statement before relocating to London to commence work on her upcoming album with Sam Dixon (Sia, Adele). In the interim Megan Washington served as a mentor to Keith Urban on the inaugural series of The Voice in Australia, and was an ambassador for Vogue Magazine's Fashion Night Out, while her stunning voice has been heard around the world on various television and film productions, from 'Girls' to 'Boardwalk Empire'. As a signal of her intention to never remain static, Megan starred in her first feature film, the cult musical 'Boy Castaways', which launched at the Adelaide and Melbourne Film Festival in late 2013.
Her first single in two years will be out in early 2014, and if the anticipation at her recent run of secret shows is any indication, we can expect another exciting chapter in Ms Washington's already stellar career. Can she pull off a strong performance in the Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge?
What do you enjoy most about your career?
I guess I enjoy the variety of it. The Grand Prix and Celebrity Challenge is an example of that variety – considering I write songs about my feelings and suddenly I’m wearing a racing onsie with my name on it, it’s quite fun and quite unexpected and you never know what’s going to happen next.
ZoomZoom describes the ultimate feeling of freedom behind the wheel and driving exuberance. Tell us about your favourite ZoomZoom moment?
I spend most time on the road in a tour bus and my favourite memory of that was when I was driving across the dessert in Nevada and it was just this expanse of incredible nothingness and we rolled down the windows and it was a really liberating, incredible moment.
How do you think you’ll go in the Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge? What are you expectations?
I’m not the world’s most adventurous driver but I’m also very competitive so it will be interesting to see which part of my psyche wins. As long as I beat Rob Mills I don’t care where I place, I just have to beat him.
What do you think of the All-New Mazda3?
It looks great, I especially like that it has my name on the side. I can’t wait to take it for a spin.
