Over 70,000 fans flocked to Albert Park today to see all of the action on and off the track at the 2012 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix. Attendance for Day 2 of the four day event was upon last year, with event organisers thrilled at the thousands of fans who passed through the gates.
Racegoers saw the F1 cars hit the track for the first time in 2012. Six world champions in Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button joined Australia’s own Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo during the two practice sessions which provided fans with an electrifying taste of what’s to come over the weekend.
Attendees also saw the first races of the V8 Supercars Challenge, Formula Ford and the Porsche Carrera Cup which delivered some thrills and spills in the wet conditions. The atmosphere off track buzzed with action including Renault Jet Pack Man, an extreme water stunt show and the RAAF Roulettes Aerial Display.
The action is just beginning!
