AGP Weekly Update - 4 weeks left!

31 MAR - 03 APR 2016

Another busy week at the Australian Grand Prix HQ.

The motor racing world held its breath as civil unrest threatened to disrupt the season-opener in Bahrain. As confirmation of that race’s cancellation – and our reinstatement as the first Grand Prix of the season – hit the headlines, it was our engineering and operations team holding their breath with talk that Melbourne would hold consecutive Grand Prix, two weeks apart. Unfortunately (?) nothing came of that idea – we’re good, but we’re not superhuman…

In ‘Giant Helmet’ news, our Formula 1 mobile education centre received rave reviews from fans who visited it at City Square. Last chance to catch it there this weekend before it relocates to Southern Cross Station as part of our Grand Prix Interactive Zone on March 2. Let us know via Facebook if you’re planning to attend.

We were feeling the love as some of the world’s best drivers leapt to the defence of our beloved race, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner all spruiking the wonders of the Albert Park circuit.

“The track sees a lot of action and it’s nice to see the packed grandstands: the crowd is enthusiastic and knowledgeable with a real interest in motor sport,” said Alonso.

Massa agreed that the Aussie fans are a big part of what makes the race special for the drivers.“The team has great support from the Australian fans, especially among the large Italian community that live in this beautiful city,” he said.

And, as ever, our Facebook and Twitter fans were excited to see photos of the transformation of Albert Park taking place before their eyes (via our official social networking platforms). If you’re following us on Twitter and have liked our Facebook page keep an eye out for a fantastic competition we’ll be running next week. We can’t tell you anything else at the moment but the prize is pretty special…
