T-minus five weeks and counting, and Albert Park is beginning to look a lot like a Grand Prix circuit. This week saw grandstands and barriers go up and overpasses craned into position. We kept everyone up-to-date with construction via photo galleries on our official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/australiangrandprix
Our official program went off to the printers to be prepared for your reading delectation…then our in-house publishing guru watched with bated breath as rumours that the first Grand Prix of the year, in Bahrain, might be cancelled. As we contemplated the possibility that we might actually be the first race on the 2011 calendar after all, one phrase rang around the office: ‘correct at time of printing’!
In Sidetracked news, we announced Birds of Tokyo will be joined by Little Red, Yacht Club DJs, Children Collide, Andy Murphy and Heath Renata. What do you mean you haven’t got your tickets yet??? ;-) www.sidetrackedfestival.com.au
Meanwhile, Aussie racing legend Alan Jones launched the Australian Grand Prix ‘Giant Helmet’ – a Formula 1 education and interactive centre - in City Square. The name might have prompted humor and mirth from some of our local radio broadcasters, but they can laugh it up. The helmet is a one-stop destination for information on the history, innovation and day-to-day life of the Grand Prix, allowing fans to get inside the head of a Formula 1 driver and will be visiting a number of Melbourne locations in coming weeks.
Finally… No, Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey won’t be attending the big race, but we’re sure Grand Prix weekend will be McDreamy anyway!
