Daniel Ricciardo set the pace on the second and final day of the young driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The Australian, driving a Red Bull, set a best time of one minute 38.102 seconds from his 77 laps to finish seven-tenths quicker than the Renault of Jerome D'Ambrosio.
Ricciardo's time was 1.3 seconds quicker than that achieved by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in setting pole position for Sunday's season-ending grand prix, although it is generally accepted that the circuit was around 1.5secs quicker on Wednesday than it was over the weekend.
The 21-year-old also set the quickest time on the opening day of the rookie session on Tuesday, but improved that mark by well over a second.
D'Ambrosio survived an early spin on his way to a strong second place with a time some four-tenths up on that of Britain's Sam Bird, who took third place for Mercedes.
Gary Paffett finished fourth for McLaren with Ferrari's Jules Bianchi in fifth. Sergio Perez was sixth on his first F1 outing for Sauber, just ahead of Britain's Paul di Resta in a Force India.
