F1 returns to what TV commentator Martin Brundle now calls “the centre of the universe for motor racing”.
A spectacular makeover has seen the arrival of Silverstone’s ‘Wing’, a 390m-long, 30m-high new pit building opened in May.
New slow corners like Village and the left-right before the main straight mean the new-look track will demand new tactics.
This was the scene in 2010 of one of Mark Webber’s greatest drives, a front-row-to- flag victory fuelled by his anger at seeing a new wing of a different kind given to Vettel; the result prompted his now infamous ‘Not bad for a #2 driver’ comment.
Webber’s been on the front row here in each of the last three years – but still waits for his first Silverstone pole.
