Coulthard times run to perfection

EVENT COUNTDOWN

ALBERT PARK

12-15 MARCH 2015

David Coulthard’s sense of impeccable timing has continued, claiming his third successive victory in the popular Ultimate Speed Comparison one-lap handicap event at the 2013 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

Yet again, Coulthard’s RB7 F1 car blasted past Mick Doohan’s Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG and the Commodore V8 Supercar of Casey Stoner to deliver the goods in another stirring finish.

But Australia’s motorcycle GP champions really took it up to him, forcing the Scot to carve over two seconds off his best time in race two.

The initial gap between Doohan’s standing start and Coulthard’s departure was 45 seconds – with Stoner the middle man.

Stoner, driving at Albert Park for the first time as his fledgling V8 Supercar career continues, also produced his fastest lap of the weekend in race three, but that didn’t stop Doohan – now an Ultimate Speed Comparison veteran -- finishing second after being tail-end Charlie in the first two races.

Coutlhard, as F1 fans will remember, won the Australian Grand Prix twice at Albert Park with McLaren in 1997 and 2003.

The fourth and final Ultimate Speed Comparison will be held at 2:40pm tomorrow
