F1 fever hits Bendigo

The 2012 Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix is set to take Bendigo by storm when the F1 Swisse Two-Seater cars zoom into town to put on a spectacular show for locals before the Bendigo International Madison Criterium on Friday 9 March, 2012.

Local residents and spectators of the Madison event will witness wheels of a different kind when the F1 cars take to the streets of Bendigo to give locals a feel for the adrenalin that is synonymous with Formula One.

Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Andrew Westacott, is thrilled to be able to bring Formula One to country Victoria less than a week before the start of the 2012 Formula 1™Australian Grand Prix.

“We are extremely appreciative of the continual support regional Victorians show our event. We are bringing Formula One to Bendigo as an expression of our gratitude,” he said.

Attendees of the Bendigo International Madison Criterium will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Swisse F1 2-seater cars located on Bull Street from 4.00pm onwards.

City of Greater Bendigo Councillor, James Reade, said he was excited that Formula One is heading for Bendigo in four weeks time.

“It isn’t everyday that you see an F1 car driving down the streets of Bendigo, and we are going to be lucky enough to have two in town!” he said.

“Bendigo is a leading Victorian cycling centre and the Bendigo International Madison is an important annual event that has been a highlight of Australia’s cycling calendar since 1970.

“We feel the presence of the F1 cars will bring further excitement to our great event and provide an extra element of entertainment.”

The Swisse F1 Two-Seater cars will run down Pall Mall from 5.30pm and will precede the 2012 Bendigo Madison Criterium.
