V8 Supercars driver Mark Winterbottom has joined the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix team as the event’s official V8 Ambassador.
Mark "Frosty" Winterbottom has climbed from the junior categories of motor racing to the very top echelon of the sport in Australia and has firmly established himself as one of V8 Supercars' brightest stars and future champions.
Finishing third in the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship, Winterbottom has lived and breathed motorsport for more than two decades, starting on 50cc and 100cc motorbikes at the age of eight, before graduating to go karts.
He then progressed to the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2001, followed by the V8 Supercars in 2003, where he’s currently driving with the Ford Performance Racing Team.
As V8 ambassador, Winterbottom will take part in a series of public and media appearances in the lead up to and during the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Westacott said it’s great to have Winterbottom join the team.
"A favourite of Ford and racing fans in general, Mark has clearly displayed what he is capable of in a V8 Supercar and his experience behind the wheel at Albert Park is invaluable," he said.
"I can’t think of anyone else we would rather partner with to promote motorsport in Melbourne and the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix."
An enthusiastic Winterbottom is looking forward to his role as V8 Ambassador.
"The Australian Grand Prix is a fantastic event for fans and drivers, the atmosphere on the streets of Albert Park is one that I love and my home town of Melbourne always puts on a great show," he said.
"I have grown up watching Formula One and am thrilled to be the V8 Supercar ambassador for the Australian Grand Prix. I won at the Grand Prix in 2012 and can’t wait to get our cars out on the Albert park track in March."
