Full Steam ahead for Formula One and Puffing Billy

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation joined forces with the Victorian Government today to unite three of the state's highest profile attractions - the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix, the Yarra Valley and the iconic Puffing Billy steam train.

For the first time ever, Formula One visited the Dandenong Ranges when the Swisse two-seater Formula 1® car completed a spectacular demonstration alongside one of Victoria’s most iconic tourism attractions, the Puffing Billy steam train, providing spectacular vision that will be used on the global stage to promote Victoria’s marquee attractions in marketing campaigns.

As the sun rose over the picturesque Tarrawarra Estate, located in the Yarra Valley, the Swisse Two-seater took to the roads around the property, before moving on to Belgrave in the Dandenong Ranges directly crossing the path of Puffing Billy Railway at two locations.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, values his team’s ongoing working relationship with the Victorian Coalition Government and understands the importance of both organisations working together.

“The Australian Grand Prix is the cornerstone of Victoria’s Major Events calendar and it gives us great pleasure to promote tourism by extending the reach of Formula One to publicise Victoria,” Westacott said.

“Formula One showcases this state on the world stage and we strongly believe that this activity will attract more international visitors to Puffing Billy and the Yarra Valley region in the future.”

Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Louise Asher, was pleased with the close working relationship with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and how it promotes Melbourne on the international stage.

“It is important to continue marketing Victoria in fresh and exciting ways and to see Formula One energising regional Victoria,” Minister Asher said.
