Get inside the head of an F1 Driver

Ever wondered what Mark Webber eats for breakfast? The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is showcasing just that in an amazing Formula One interactive public exhibition taking the form of a giant helmet.

Presented by the City of Melbourne, the enormous specially formulated race helmet will be on display in a series of public exhibitions around Melbourne in February and March free of charge for all to explore.

The helmet’s unique design provides locals, visitors, school children, and motorsport enthusiasts with a first-hand and educational insight into just what it takes physically and mentally to race an F1 car, the innovation behind F1 technology, the evolution of the sport and its long heritage.

“This truly innovative and interactive educational tool provides an engaging insight into the exciting world of Formula One for all ages to enjoy,” said Andrew Westacott, acting Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

Created and developed by local design outfit Gracious Space in conjunction with Printcess Print Production and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the helmet stands at 4.25m high and 5.6m wide. The structure is fitted with state of the art television screens including 3-D technology and showcases F1 team memorabilia, educational components and interesting facts about the amazing international sport that is Formula 1™.

Amid the exciting memorabilia on display are Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel’s driving suits from the 2010 season, Australian F1 legend Alan Jones’ original racing helmet and the Australian Grand Prix trophy.

Former F1 World Champion Alan Jones, in town today for the official helmet opening in City Square, is proud to be involved with the educational initiative.

“Formula One is a fascinating sport and the giant helmet gives the community a chance to understand and experience its inner workings in a fun and stimulating way,” he said.

The structure also looks at a day in the life of Aussie champion Mark Webber highlighting his gruelling fitness regime and team activities on a race weekend, as well as a historical timeline of how the sport has evolved through the years.

The customised helmet will be exhibited over a four week period in and around Melbourne.
