Grand Prix wheels in motion at UBS Cycle the Circuit

John Cain has claimed victory in this year’s UBS Cycle the Circuit race at the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

The race around the iconic Albert Park circuit was a star-studded event with Tour de France Green Jersey winner Robbie McEwen, and his fellow Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge Drivers – Celebrity Chef Adam D’Sylva, News Reporter Clint Stanaway, as well as TV personalities Lauren Phillips and Catriona Rowntree joining more than 100 riders on the 10km two lap race.

It was fast and furious with John Cain, a winner of a promotional spot in the ride, crossing the line in 15 minutes 13 seconds, just one second clear of the next rider. Second and third places went to Ritch Longmire and Chris Miller respectively.

Delighted with his track side victory John Cain said, “This was a unique money-can’t-buy experience to ride the same track that Formula One cars will be tearing around in just a few hours. There was some fierce competition out there, I couldn’t be happier to have crossed the line first!”

Mike Chisholm, UBS Head of Wealth Management Australia said; "There is nothing quite like the exhilaration of speeding around a Formula One race track with 110 other cycling enthusiasts as the sun rises over Albert Park. We are very pleased to be able to offer this unique opportunity to our clients and staff while raising funds for such a worthy cause. Our thanks go to the Australian Grand Prix and Robbie McEwen for making this event possible and our congratulations go to the winner."

Andrew Westacott, Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO said, “Riding around the circuit is one of the best ways to check out the track, it’s looking in great condition ready for some exciting racing over the next two days. UBS Cycle the Circuit is not only an exceptional experience for all involved but a great way to celebrate our partnership with UBS.”

Following the award ceremony, UBS used the occasion to present a cheque of $10,000 to The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal – the Official Charity of the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix – with the organisation’s ambassador and current ‘Miss Australia’ Olivia Wells on hand to accept the donation.
