High demand for the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix

New grandstand built and Paddock Club sold out

With less than 10 days to go, the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix is expected to be one of the most successful Australian Grands Prix in recent years, with grandstand and corporate ticket sales already exceeding 2012 levels.

Grandstand tickets are selling fast with all single day Sunday grandstands sold out. On top of an increased volume of premium tickets added to last year’s build, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation has built an additional grandstand to meet demand. The World Champion Grandstand will pay tribute to defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel, and will have spectacular views of Turns 3, 4 and 5.

General admission patrons have also been adding to the ticket-buying frenzy. The attraction is attributed to a competitive 2012 season, as well as the fact that two Australian drivers will take to the grid at Albert Park.

The top end of town is also getting in on the action. In a clear signal that corporate Australia is investing in premium hospitality, the Paddock Club facilities have been expanded, and have sold out for the third year in a row. This area will be home to some of the most recognisable world brands such as Qantas, Ferrari, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, Pirelli & Williams, Mercedes AMG Petronas, UBS and Crown, who will host over 3,000 guests a day in exclusive facilities above the F1 garages.

Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Andrew Westacott, expects the event to be a huge success.

“No one stages a Grand Prix quite like Melbourne and this year will be no exception. Being the first race of the season, there’s a tremendous sense of anticipation and excitement which never fails to translate into an exhilarating event for all.”

“Grandstand sales are higher than the same time last year and we have given the green light to build an additional grandstand to cope with demand.”

“We’ve upgraded the facilities, have a number of new products and have had a very strong promotional program, all of which indicate that we will see a huge crowd descend on Albert Park.”

This year will be a milestone event with 2013 marking 60 years since the first Australian Grand Prix was held in Albert Park in 1953. To celebrate the occasion, day one of the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix has been renamed ‘Heritage Day’ and free entry will be given to all general admission patrons on Thursday 14 March 2013.

“This 60 year legacy is evidence that the Australian Grand Prix is firmly cemented as an integral part of the Australian sporting landscape and the rich history behind the Albert Park Circuit will be celebrated with great pride,” Mr Westacott added.

“All in all, it’s shaping up to be a bumper event and the race is on for patrons to secure last minute tickets which can be bought online or at the gate,” said Mr. Westacott.
