Horner Happy with Red Bull Pace

EVENT COUNTDOWN

ALBERT PARK

12-15 MARCH 2015

Defending champion Red Bull’s chief Christian Horner was happy with his team's domination of opening practice - and Mark Webber's late lap to be the first man under the 1:27 barrier at Albert Park and outpace team-mate and champion Sebastian Vettel.

Horner said: "It is always difficult to know what everyone is doing, but that was a very good lap from Mark and a very good time. I think we are happy with the first session and we have a lot of good data now - the circuit is cleaning itself up all the time so I expect it to get faster and faster.

"The wind made it a bit difficult for everyone and there were times when they were being blown around out there. It is a challenge to the drivers, but they started well and did a good job out there. For us, it is a good start."

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said he was satisfied with his men winding up sixth and seventh, Jenson Button just outpacing fellow-Briton Lewis Hamilton.

"I felt it was a good session for us and we did some long runs on high fuel loads and with used tyres so that was pleasing. The Red Bulls were quick, of course!

"We didn't go out on light fuel and fresh tyres at the end... But we have a lot of good data and we will be faster this afternoon."
