The 2012 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix is expected to be one of the most successful Australian Grands Prix in recent years as demand for Grandstand, General Admission and Paddock Club exceeds expectations one week out from the event.
The majority of the four-day Grandstands are already sold out and all single day Sunday grandstands have reached capacity. As a result, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has had to build an additional Grandstand, named after Sir Stirling Moss, on Turn 1 which will provide patrons with some of the best views of the circuit.
General Admission patrons have also been adding to the ticket-buying frenzy. Part of the attraction this year is the introduction of the Crusty Demons to the entertainment roster, the appearance of ARIA winning artist Flo Rida to the Sidetracked Music Festival line up, plus the addition of a Premium Zone which offers GA ticket holders the opportunity to upgrade to an enclosure which has the views and services of a corporate facility.
Without doubt though, the biggest driver of GA ticket sales has been the introduction of a special pre-purchase price of $79 for the big race day itself if bought before 1 March. The response to this offer has been phenomenal and even though Sunday GA tickets are now selling for $99, there is no indication that sales are slowing and it is expected that demand will continue right up to race day itself.
The top end of town is also getting in on the action. In a clear signal that corporate Australia is investing in premium hospitality, the AGPC has had to expand its Paddock Club facilities to meet demand and with less than one week to go, it’s considered a sell out. The Paddock Club domain will be home to some of the most recognisable brands in the world such as Qantas, Ferrari, Vodafone, Pirelli, UBS and Crown, who will host almost 6000 across the event in exclusive facilities above the Formula 1™ garages.
While title rights partner Qantas will once again host the entrance lounge to the exclusive Paddock Club quarter, the 2012 event will see the addition of an in situ Channel Ten broadcast studio to the entrance lounge footprint. For the first time, Channel Ten will include the comings and goings of the glamorous Paddock Club in its live broadcast as well as create segments for a range of its flagship programs such as its new Breakfast show, The Project, The Circle and Ten News, all of which will feature a variety of leading Channel Ten talent in the week leading up to race day.

We’ve upgraded the facilities, have a number of new products and have had a very strong promotional program, all of which indicate that we will see a huge crowd descend on Albert Park to watch the F1 season opener where we will have six world champions and two Australians on the grid.
“All in all, it’s shaping up to be a bumper event and the race is on for patrons to secure last minute tickets which can be bought online or at the gate. All we need now is great weather to ensure we bring home one of Melbourne’s most important and iconic annual sporting events which is watched the world over.”
