The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) congratulates Aussie young-gun Daniel Ricciardo on successfully securing a race seat with the Hispania Racing Team for the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1™ season.
AGPC Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Westacott said he couldn’t be more excited for Daniel and his family.
“The team at the AGPC has followed Daniel through his career and we are all looking forward to seeing two Aussies on the grid.”
“What a perfect birthday present for the 22-year-old,” he added.
Daniel will join Mark Webber on the grid for the rest of the Formula 1™ season and is set to make his debut at the British Grand Prix in just over a week.
This will be the first time Formula 1™ has seen two Aussies race against each other since Alan Jones and Vern Schuppan in 1977.
The news came on the eve of his 22nd birthday today.
“We wish him all the best next week and can’t wait to catch up in Melbourne at the 2012 Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix next March,” Westacott said.
