Question & Answer with Daniel Ricciardo

31 MAR - 03 APR 2016

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo from the Toro Rosso Formula One team was kind enough to answer some of our "hard hitting" questions, for our latest driver Question and Answer post.

What is your favourite part of the Albert Park circuit?

Daniel: I’ve never actually driven there! But on the simulator and the computer games, I like the high speed section, the fifth gear left and sixth gear right approaching the start of Sector 3.

What is your favourite restaurant in Melbourne?

Daniel: There’s loads. I like Lygon Street where there are several Italian restaurants.

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the words 'Australian Grand Prix'?

Daniel: Standing on the podium with a big smile on my face looking at all the fans.

If you won the Australian Grand Prix how would you celebrate?

Daniel: Big! Celebrate in Melbourne with family and friends, then fly back to Perth and continue the celebrations.

What do you like about Aussie Formula 1 fans?

Daniel: When it comes to sports, Australians are very passionate and loud and I like the atmosphere they bring to events.

What is your favourite thing to do in Melbourne away from the track?

Daniel: Going to the MCG and watching a football game, that’s Australian football by the way.

If you could have any famous Australian presenting you with the winner's trophy at the end of the Australia Grand Prix, who would you pick and why?

Daniel: I think it would have to be Wayne Gardner, the former motorcycle racer. When I was small, there was a video of him in the video shop and I used to take it out so many times that in the end, my mum bought it for me. The number of times we rented it, we could have bought 20 copies!  I was a big fan of his and I still have a photo of him and me when I was maybe 4 years old. Him presenting me with the trophy would bring back happy memories.

How do you feel about Australia being the first race of the season?

Daniel: I think it’s really exciting. As I said, the Australians fans always make for a nice atmosphere so Melbourne being the first race again will bring an even bigger crowd. It will be like a big festival. Hopefully it should be a good weekend and the team can enjoy a good result on Sunday night.
