Question & Answer with Michael Schumacher

31 MAR - 03 APR 2016

Seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher from the Mercedes GP Formula One team, was kind enough to answer some of our "hard hitting" questions, for the latest of our driver Question and Answer series.

What is your favourite part of the Albert Park circuit

Michael: "The most striking part for me is the park itself. When you visit and see all the fans having fun, that just gives you a great feeling of how motorsport can be. It is the atmosphere which makes Albert Park so special."

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the words 'Australian Grand Prix'?

Michael: "Australia has always been one of the highlights on the Formula One calendar and this has never changed for me in all my years of competing. It is also because the country is so striking, and thinking of the Australian GP, there are other experiences which come to my mind such as seeing rare animals or going cycling."

Who do you think will be your biggest rival this season?

Michael: "It's always difficult to predict before the first race but I think there will be a group of three or four teams fighting it out… including us!"

What is your favourite memory from the Australian Grand Prix?

Michael: "I am lucky enough to have a lot of good memories from Melbourne. It's a venue where I have won four times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004) and those races will always be very special. And thinking back to those years just now, I realise it has been quite a while when I won here. Obviously it would be wonderful if I could add another victory."

If you won the Australian Grand Prix how would you celebrate?

Michael: "This for sure is the least thing to worry about… I'm sure we would have a big party with the whole team!"

What do you like about Aussie Formula 1 fans?

Michael: "As I said earlier, there's always a fantastic atmosphere at Albert Park and in Melbourne around the race weekend. The Aussie fans love their motorsport and they know how to celebrate, so it is fun to be there."

If you could have any famous Australian presenting you with the winner's trophy at the end of the Australia Grand Prix, who would you pick and why?

Michael: "I would probably pick Mick Doohan, as I would have invited him to my party anyway!"

How do you feel about Australia being the first race of the season?

Michael: "Albert Park was the season-opener for quite a few years and we always enjoyed it a great deal. The atmosphere in the paddock is very special. So I'm sure it will be a great weekend, and I look forward to entering the paddock on Thursday."
