The glamour of Formula One hit Melbourne this weekend when the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Entertainment One Hopscotch rolled out the red carpet for the Australian premiere of Ron Howard’s highly anticipated film RUSH.
Starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl, the big-budget Hollywood film is based on the true story of the 1976 Formula One season and the fierce rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
German actor, Daniel Brühl, who stars in the film as Lauda, flew into Melbourne especially for the red carpet launch at Crown Melbourne. He also took in an adrenalin pumping ride in the Swisse F1 Two-Seater at Albert Park in a display for media.
Brühl then joined over 600 of Melbourne’s A-list and Australia’s motorsport elite at the screening of the film. Guests included Aussie Formula One World Champion Alan Jones, former Grand Prix Ambassadors Chelsea Scanlan and Kate Peck, as well as five time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, believes that RUSH will only enhance the passion for Formula One locally.
“There is no question that this film will ignite a passion for Formula One in anyone who sees it.”
Westacott continued, “The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is proud to have launched RUSH alongside Entertainment One Hopscotch for the Australian Premiere. The sheer determination and physical sacrifice that is depicted in RUSH is a credit to the cast, crew and historians as their portrayal of the state of Formula One in the 1970s is spot on.”
RUSH will be released nationally in cinemas on Thursday 3 October, 2013.
