Ferrari

Constructors' Championship 2010: 3rd

Last season ended ignominiously for the scarlet Scuderia, which cost chief race engineer Australian Chris Dyer his job following a strategic failure at the final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where Fernando Alonso's bid for a maiden title with Ferrari perished as he scrabbled in midfield.

Dyer's place has been filled by the recruitment of former Red Bull strategy man Neil Martin from champions Red Bull and former McLaren expert Pat Fry.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has called for nothing less than a sustained bid for both titles and glory this year, a prospect greeted with deadpan reaction by an unchanged drivers' line-up of Spaniard Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa. For them, this horse has to be prancing as always.

Drivers

5 Fernando Alonso (age 29, Spanish, 157 Grand Prix starts, 26 wins, 20 poles, 18 fastest laps; World Champion in 2005 and 2006)

One of the great Spanish sportsmen of modern times and the first Iberian to lift Formula One's drivers' world title, Fernando will be hoping to add to his single previous triumph at Albert Park in 2006. His undoubted natural speed and talent, allied to a sharp tactical and technical brain, makes him a formidable force and one of the pre-season favourites.

2010 season: 252 points, 2nd – best result 1st Bahrain, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Korea.

6 Felipe Massa (age 29, Brazilian 134 Grand Prix starts, 11 wins, 15 poles, 15 fastest laps)

After missing out on the title by a few hundred metres in 2008, Felipe suffered severe and, initially, life-threatening head injuries in an accident at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix. It ended his season and almost his career, but he recovered to return, albeit with some inconsistent showings last year. Last year, Felipe was on the podium here in third place, his best result in eight visits that also saw him finish sixth in 2007.

2010 season: 144 points, 6th – best result 2nd Bahrain, Germany.
