Team Force India
Constructors’ Championship 2010: 7th
One of the rising forces in F1, Force India missed out by just one point on a place in the top six in the Constructors’ Championship last year, easily their best in four years in the top flight.
There were no stand-out moments like Fisi’s 2009 pole in Belgium or Sutil’s fastest lap at Monza in the same season, but if Tonio Liuzzi had been closer to Sutil’s level then Force India might well have edged ahead of F1 grandees Williams in the final count.
Can they break into the top five in 2011?
14 Adrian Sutil (age 28, German, 71 Grand Prix starts)
Adrian strung together three top-six finishes in 2010 and a host of other top-10 results to consolidate his place in F1’s upper midfield. This will be his fifth year with the team in its various guises – he came into F1 when it was called Spyker.
“To stay for another year here feels very right,” he says but he will be keen to edge closer to a first F1 podium.
2010 season: 47 points, 11th – best result 5th in Malaysia and Belgium.
5 Paul di Resta (age 21, British, making his F1 debut)
F1’s latest Scot, Paul has taken the slow route to F1 – if we compare him to World Champion Sebastian Vettel, whom di Resta beat to the 2006 F3 Euroseries title. He moved sideways to sportscar racing with Mercedes and last year took out the DTM (German Touring Car) title.
The Mercedes connection – those engines power Force India – helped earn him a third driver spot last year and now he makes the move up to a full-time race seat.
