Constructors championship 2010: 11th
It may not look great, but 11th is a mighty result – HRT only just made it to the opening race, where Bruno Senna managed three laps in the first free practice and the other car first ran in qualifying…
Things seem little different in 2011: first practice here on Friday will again be the first time the new car turns a wheel in anger after customs problems delayed vital parts in Spain.
They shuffled four drivers in 2010, with Senna and Karun Chandhok managing three 14th-place finishes between them – that’s what edged them ahead of Virgin in the final standings.
22 Narain Karthikeyan (age 34, Indian, 19 Grand Prix starts)
Another driver who began his F1 career with Jordan back in `05, Narain benefited from the tyre fiasco at Indianapolis that year to record a fourth-place finish for the team when only six runners took part.
23 Vitantonio Liuzzi (age 29, Italian, 63 Grand Prix starts)
Dropped by Force india after finishing 15th – his best result in the Championship – in 2010, Tonio gets another crack with his third F1 team. He began with Red Bull in `05, when he did four rounds, had two full seasons with the same team in 2008-09, then did just four races for Force India in `09.
2010 season: A sixth place in Korea was Tonio’s best result last season when he partnered Adrian Sutil at Force India and helped them fight Williams all the way for sixth place, eventually missing out by a single point. He won the HRT seat in testing in Spain in February-March.
