Tribute to Professor Sid Watkins

One of Formula 1’s leading personalities, Professor Sid Watkins, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84. The former F1 medical chief spent 26 years transforming safety standards in F1 and was highly respected by teams, drivers and fans alike. The neurosurgeon’s influence to improve medical facilities in Formula 1 dramatically cut the number of deaths and serious injuries to Formula 1 drivers. As the on-track surgeon, he was also responsible for saving the lives of Didier Pironi, Rubens Barrichello and Mika Hakkinen.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation would like to pay tribute to Professor Sid Watkins and our condolences are with his family.
