Christmas has come early for young West Australian Daniel Ricciardo, with the 22 year-old securing a 2012 Formula One drive with the Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Ricciardo will join Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne as part of a new look line up at the Red Bull owned team, replacing Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari for the 2012 FIA World Championship season.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso was first established in 2005 with the intention of providing a first step into Formula One for the youngsters in the Red Bull driver program and is considered a training ground for future Red Bull Racing Team drivers.

AGPC Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Westacott said he is thrilled that Daniel has been able to secure a contract for the upcoming season.

“It has been an exciting six months for Daniel, he debuted for the Hispania Racing Team at the 2011 British Grand Prix and raced the remainder of the season gaining invaluable experience with 11 race starts,” he said.

“We are absolutely delighted to see his hard work and talent rewarded with a permanent team position next season and are excited to watch him line up on the Albert Park grid when the 2012 season commences in Melbourne in March”.

Fans wanting to witness history unfold as Ricciardo and fellow Australian Mark Webber compete at the Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix can experience the thrill and adrenalin of Formula One, across 4 days of entertainment, for only $79 with an early bird ticket.
