Van Giz Fastest and Retains Pole Chance

31 MAR - 03 APR 2016

Ford’s Shane van Gisbergen set the fastest time during Thursday evening’s V8 Supercar qualifying session at Albert Park, and will have a chance to challenge for pole position during tomorrow’s Top 10 Shoot-out.

As the fastest qualifier, van Gisbergen was in charge of randomly selecting how much of the field will be inverted before the Top 10 Shootout.

The number eight was selected, meaning that his team-mate Tim Slade was effectively ‘bumped’ to fastest, but the participants in tomorrow’s Shoot-out aren’t affected – only their running order.

Had the number value been higher than 10, van Gisbergen would have cost himself a Shoot-out spot.

“We got it all together and it all lined up,” said van Gisbergen.

“I had Mark Winterbottom in front of me, and I was catching him, so I knew it was an alright lap.

“Drawing number eight doesn’t mean anything, it just means we’ll run a bit later in the Shoot-out.”

The original Top 10 was van Gisbergen, Craig Lowndes, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, Rick Kelly, Jamie Whincup, Jono Webb, Tim Slade, Jason Richards, Alex Davison.-
However, with the top eight inverted, Slade was effectively first, from Webb and Whincup.

The Top 10 Shoot-out will be held on Friday at 3:00pm, and will determine the starting order for race one of the V8 Supercars Albert Park 400, which is at 6:20pm tomorrow.
