Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber will give Melbourne some high-octane action when he drives a Red Bull Racing F1 car across the city's iconic Bolte Bridge in the lead up to the 2011 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix. The action is set to unfold on the 490m, six-lane bridge on Saturday 19 March at 9.45am.
Mark is no stranger to driving across Australia's famous bridges, having conquered the Sydney Harbour Bridge back in 2005. Now it's Melbourne's turn to experience the excitement. Thousands of spectators are expected to gather at Docklands Waterfront City to view the action live via big-screen TVs and hear the roar of the Red Bull F1 car as it passes overhead.
“It’s a special opportunity to drive across the Bolte Bridge in Melbourne,” Mark Webber commented. “The Australian Grand Prix is a world class event and something we should be very proud about. Everyone works very hard there to put on a great show every year and it’s nice to be able to give something back to the city. It’s a great way of saying thank you for all the support the local people have offered me during the last few seasons and it's a nice way to kick-start the grand prix week; I feel very privileged and I’m looking forward to meeting the people there.”
Following his bridge crossing, Mark will delight the gathered crowd by stopping at Docklands Waterfront City for a question and answer session with Australian F1 commentator Greg Rust.
