Driving Learning profiles career professionals within STEM-aligned fields, hosts an array of student-focused career seminars, conducts hands-on workshops and embraces the power of peer-to-peer learning.

Seminars

Discovering how to improve and resolve real world problems will be crucial in the future workforce. Be inspired by champions of the engineering, technology, aerospace and automotive industries all with a focus on STEM learning. Our heroes will deliver their individual success stories, talk about career progression and pathways - as well as explore the redefined jobs of the future.

Workshops

The Driving Learning program strives to inspire educational learning through interactive tools designed to challenge students creative thinking in a unique environment.  Get your students excited about creative learning with the below twenty-minute workshops:  

THURSDAY SEMINARS

11:05-11:25 - EFC Esports

Live Esports game play demonstrated by the Essendon football club followed by an Esports information session.

11:40-12:00 - DR Brent May - Mandatory drivers F1® gloves

Learn about safety technology that has evolved in the world of motorsport including the new mandatory biometric F1® drivers gloves.

12:40-13:00 - McLaren Engineer

Ever wanted to work in the exciting world of Formula One? Hear professionals’ stories on their careers and a typical work day.

13:20-13:40 – Telstra

In partnership with Lexus Australia, Telstra is about to start testing new life-saving communication technologies in cars on Victorian roads. Powered by our 4GX network, the trials will test and demonstrate Australian-first Cellular V2X technology and advanced driver assist features to create a safer driving experience.

14:40-15:00 – Swinburne University of Technology

Learn about Team Swinburne, including the exciting activities and projects and how these relate to the various degrees Swinburne has to offer. 

FRIDAY SEMINARS

10:30-10:50 - Australian Defence Force

The Australian Defence Force is a world-class military force operating some of the most advanced equipment and employing specialist’s world renowned for their commitment to the task. Hear from members of all three services, Army, Navy and Air Force and better understand what it’s like to be in today’s Australian Defence Force and the array of careers paths available.

11:40-12:00 - RMIT

RMIT Racing teams touch on the cars they build each year for competition.

13:30-13:50 – BAE Systems & Stem Challenge winners announcement 

Hear from the Director of Engineering and Technology at BAE Systems Australia and be inspired by his career journey whilst learning about the importance and benefits of a STEM career. In addition, BAE Systems will present the winners of the BAE Systems AusGP STEM Challenge.

14:20-14:40 - CAMS

Hear about the important role simulators play in the world of racing.

10:45 and 11:30 - STEM Workshops presented by Victoria University Polytechnic

  • The future is AI – Interact with a humanoid robot (16 Registrations) (8 max per school)
  • Experience the World of Virtual Reality (8 participants)
  • Modular robotics (8 participants)
  • From Sketch to 3D Printer (8 participants)

12:30-12:50 - The Long Walk – Aboriginal Art & Cultural Experience (5 groups; 8 participants per group)

Presented by Essendon Football Club; Introduce students to an Aboriginal art experience. Student’s will have the opportunity to paint with ochre and learn about the significance of ochre and why it was used and when. A truly unique experience suitable for all ages.
