After time at Red Bull and Mercedes as a test driver, Brendon Hartley debuted in 2017 for Toro Rosso.

Hartley, who was born in New Zealand, followed his father Bryan into motorsport, who raced most notably in Formula Atlantic.

Brendon is the ninth New Zealander to race in Formula 1® and the first to receive Formula 1® status since Mike Thackwell in 1984.

In 2014, Hartley was signed by Porsche to drive alongside Mark Webber in the World Endurance Championship. Three years later, driving with a fellow Kiwi Earl Bamber and not Webber, he won the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Soon after, Hartley received a call from Toro Rosso to replace Pierre Gasly in the United States Grand Prix. He will race full-time for the team in 2018.
