It is almost impossible to arrive in F1® with a better pedigree than that of Brit, George Russell. In each of the last two seasons he has won championships at his first attempt.
In 2017, he won in GP3 and last year in Formula 2 and in both years he was the standout driver in competitive fields of young chargers. On those results alone Russell looks more than ready to step up to Formula 1®.
Russell is well-placed at Williams. The team has, naturally, always made British drivers feel right at home, and in Robert Kubica he has an ideal mentor to ease his way into Grand Prix racing. And to be blunt, pre-season expectations for the team are not high after 2018, which was an all-time low for Williams.
The last British driver to win in his first year in GP2 (before it changed to F2) was Lewis Hamilton. Just making it to the elite level of F1® brings it own pressures; but arriving in Formula One with that kind of pressure is something else again.
