There were times last season when it took a doubletake to identify the blue car chasing the Benzes and Ferraris; was that a Red Bull or a Toro Rosso?
If it was the latter, it was Pierre Gasly’s Toro Rosso. The 23-year-old has marked himself as a rising star and during his season with Honda power, there were some brilliant results – like fourth in Bahrain – and some, less so. Part of the reason for that was Gasly was already working on his 2019 season, and accepting engine grid penalties to try new powerplant specifications.
He did that, and more, without a word of complaint. The Frenchman’s graduation process from Toro Rosso to Red Bull has also been made by some of the biggest stars of Formula 1®, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen all following that route. And all have been successful.
After struggling to adjust to his new Red Bull Racing machinery in 2019, a mid-season switch sees the young French driver move back to Toro Rosso.
