One of the purest talents in the sport, Sergio Perez is the fifth Mexican to graduate to Formula 1® and – after serving a solid apprenticeship with Sauber, McLaren and Force India – appears poised to find a front-running seat soon.
Several incidents with Force India teammate Esteban Ocon throughout the 2017 season continued to deny Perez a chance at a podium finish, but he still managed to match his career-best seventh place in the Drivers’ Championship.
Perez’s success has heralded the return of his nation as hosts to the much-enjoyed Mexican Grand Prix. He has a good personal relationship with Carlos Slim Domit, the chairman of Telmex, who has used much of his wealth to support Mexican racing drivers.
