Renault have confirmed that the well-regarded Pat Fry will begin his role with the Formula 1® team on February 5.
Fry will work as Technical Director (Chassis) at Renault and his arrival is part of a push from the Enstone-based team to improve on their 2019 results.
Renault have also recruited Dirk De Beer from Williams to become the team’s new Head of Aerodynamics.
Fry has worked with Benetton, Manor, Ferrari and McLaren. He was director of engineering at Ferrari and was most recently McLaren’s temporary engineering director.
In a brief statement on Twitter, Renault said: “Pat Fry will start with the team as Technical Director (Chassis) on 5th February 2020.
“He will attend the team’s season opener on the 12th February in Paris.”
Renault will unveil their 2020 car at the Paris event, with Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo to be flanked by new teammate Esteban Ocon for the first time.

Renault dropped to fifth in the Constructors’ Championship in 2019, despite Ricciardo’s high-profile switch from Red Bull.
Ricciardo finished ninth in the driver standings with 54 points. Ocon, a former Force India (now Racing Point) driver, was a reserve driver for Mercedes in 2019.
Ocon replaces Nico Hulkenberg in the 2020 season.
Formula 1®’s pre-season testing begins in Barcelona on February 19, ahead of the much-anticipated season-opener in Melbourne in March.
