Cars hit the track as AusGP begins

The first cars have hit the track at the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 on Thursday morning.

The gates opened to the public at 9.15am and fans quickly swarmed to Melbourne Walk to get a glimpse of their Formula 1® heroes arriving at the track.

The on-track activity kicked off with a Formula SAE demonstration before ex-Formula 1® drivers Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella headlined proceedings in a practice session of the VHT Australian S5000 Championship.

A big crowd is expected at the iconic Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on Thursday for the first of four days at the much-anticipated event.

Thursday’s action is headlined by qualifying sessions for Race 1 and Race 2 of the Beaurepaires Supercars Melbourne 400.

The likes of Scott McLaughlin, Jamie Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen and Chaz Mostert know there is no margin for error in both of the 10-minute qualifying sessions.

The first race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia round then wraps up proceedings on day one in Melbourne and begins at 5.20pm.

Tickets are still available to all four days of the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020. Book online and save up to $10* on AusGP Park Pass tickets before prices increase at the gate.
