Daniel Ricciardo has secured his first points in Renault colours, finishing P7 at the historic 1000th F1® race at the Chinese Grand Prix.
The Australian was able to maintain his starting position throughout the race, surviving an onslaught of pressure from P8 finisher Sergio Perez.
“It’s good to get on the board, finish the race and have my first points with the team.” Ricciardo said. “We’ll take the positives from that. It might have looked a simple seventh, but it wasn’t easy.
“It was a bit of a lonely race, I didn’t have so many battles but I was being pushed hard from the cars behind all the way to the end.
“It’s a strong result and the best we can ask for; at least for today. We want to push on from this over the next couple of races and keep working from here.”
Renault teammate Nico Hulkenberg succumbed to a mechanical issue on the 16th lap, continuing the trend of reliability problems within the team.
Ricciardo will return to the track hoping for continued success at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, April 16-18.
