Ferrari’s Italian heritage will be celebrated when the team launches its 2020 Formula 1® car on Wednesday morning (4.30am AEDT).

The Maranello-based team is holding an event in Reggio Emilia, the birthplace of the Italian tricolore flag, where they will unveil their new car.

“Scuderia Ferrari will launch the Formula 1® car it will race this year at the historic Romolo Valli Municipal Theatre, in the city of Reggio Emilia,” the team said.

“The curtain goes up at 18.30 (Central European Time) on Tuesday 11 February, while fans can follow the presentation live, as it streams on the Scuderia’s digital platforms.

“We have chosen Reggio Emilia because 223 years ago, this city was where the tricolour was born and later adopted as the flag of unified Italy.

“The Valli Theatre is therefore the perfect setting to reveal Scuderia Ferrari’s latest car.”

Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc will then drive the new car in its official track debut when pre-season testing begins in Barcelona on February 19.

Recent years have been lean for Ferrari, who have not won a major trophy since they claimed the 2008 Constructors’ Championship.

Kimi Raikkonen was the last world championship winner for Ferrari, in 2007, but Mercedes have completely dominated Formula 1® over the last few years.

Leclerc claimed the most poles of any driver in 2019, but that form did not translate to race day.

In his first year with Ferrari, Leclerc finished fourth in the driver standings, with 264 points. Four-time world champion Vettel was just behind, in fifth with 240, as Mercedes man Lewis Hamilton won his sixth title.

Ferrari’s new car will make its Grand Prix debut in Melbourne. The Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 runs from March 12 to 15.
