Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix enters Hall of Fame

The Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix has been inducted into the esteemed RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame, by winning the Major Festival and Events category for a third consecutive year.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) was recognised for its excellence in the staging of the Formula 1® 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix and its role in attracting visitors from across Australia and around the world, and promoting Melbourne and Victoria to millions of fans globally.

AGPC CEO, Andrew Westacott, said that major events continue to deliver for Victoria and winning the Hall of Fame award positions the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix as the flagship of the state's major events calendar.

“Being inducted into the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame is truly humbling and is a reflection of our hard work and commitment to create value for Melbourne, Victoria and Australia,” Westacott said.

“We take great pride in continuing to grow the fan experience by showcasing all that our great city and state have to offer, from a wide range of fields including technology, innovation, art and culture.

"The Formula One Australian Grand Prix has proven to be more than just a race and has evolved to become a global festival-style showcase, enhancing the city’s vibrancy and forming a critical part of Victoria's visitor economy."

The event’s Hall of Fame status adds to the impressive list of accolades awarded to the Formula 1® 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, having already claimed the following internationally acclaimed honours earlier this week:

  • 2018 SPIA Asia Awards: GOLD, Best International Sporting Event of the Year
  • 2018 SPIA Asia Awards: GOLD, Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for a Sports Event
  • 2018 SPIA Asia Awards: GOLD, Best Live Experience at a Sporting Event (as voted by the public)

The Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix will now represent Victoria in the Major Festival and Events category at the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, hosted in Launceston in March next year.
