Nick McBride has done the business in qualifying for the popular Porsche Carrera Cup category at the 2017 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
McBride's second pole position in Carrera Cup came on the back of a sizzling 1:58.2723 lap in the 20-minute qualifying session, just ahead of teammate Andre Heimgartner (1:55.2724), with Dylan O'Keefe (1:55.3209) and former V8 Supercar full-timer Cameron McConville (1:55.4590) to start from the second row of the grid.
McBride was second overall at Albert Park in 2016, but has now set himself up beautifully to go one better in 2017. And he won't have to long to ponder, as race one will be held at 4:20pm this afternoon.
The gap between the top runners in qualifying was tight, with just 0.6217 seconds separating the top eight, with Jaxon Evans, Michael Almond, David Wall and 2016 Albert Park overall winner Alex Davidson to start from positions 5-8 in the 16-car field.
Wall and Heimgartner lead the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup after round one, ahead of Evans and O'Keefe. The four 25-minute races at Albert Park will also count towards championship points.
