McLaren's MCL35 set to be unveiled

Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz celebrating McLaren podium

McLaren’s much-anticipated MCL35 for the new 2020 Formula 1® season will be unveiled on Friday morning (AEDT).

Impressive seasons from Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris helped McLaren to fourth in the 2019 Constructors’ Championship, increasing expectations ahead of a new campaign.

The team’s new car will be shown to the world in an event that begins at 12.30am AEDT on Friday.

“The reveal will be live-streamed on, YouTube and Facebook … don’t be late! The covers [on the car] will come off within 10 minutes of the livestream beginning,” McLaren said on their website.

“Stick around to hear from our senior management team and, of course, Carlos and Lando, who will give you the first look at our all-new 2020 driver overalls.”

The launch date was first revealed by Norris, who was filming a social media video in McLaren’s Woking base when he walked into a meeting with team staff.

Norris told the staff he had been told the MCL35 launch was on the “13th of Feb” before the video was cut short.

The video was then posted to social media by McLaren as a way of announcing the launch date.

Formula 1® pre-season testing begins in Barcelona on February 19.

The season-opening event soon follows, with the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix to run from March 12 to 15.
