Ricciardo eyeing AusGP podium finish

Daniel Ricciardo has his sights firmly set on a podium finish at Formula 1® 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix when the season roars to life from 22-25 March.

The launch of Ricciardo’s new car, the RB14, has been brought forward to Monday 19 February as the team seek to ensure it is in the best shape possible leading into pre-season testing in Barcelona later this month.

“This year we want to be in good shape from the beginning. We want to be on the podium in the first race.” Ricciardo told Speed Week.

“We are working hard with the aerodynamics and if our calculations are correct, then we will be in good shape in Melbourne and fighting for a place in the top three.”

Sauber, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren will all launch their 2018 cars next week with Williams set to reveal their car this Thursday.

Ricciardo is not the only one wanting to get the season off to a good start, with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation getting ready to kick off the entire 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship™ season with an event that promises more action and excitement than ever before.

“With just five weeks to go, we’re in the strongest sales position in a decade and I think this is a direct result of the buzz around Formula 1®, both here in Australia and globally and how the event has developed in recent years,” Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Andrew Westacott said.

“This sales result is a reflection on a number of key factors, including but not limited to, Daniel’s performance throughout the 2017 season – one of his most consistent yet, the anticipation for the opening round of the season and the high-quality product that’s on offer to all fans attending.

“The Formula 1® 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix may showcase the glitz and glamour of the world’s best drivers and teams, however, it is far more than just a motorsport event, it is one of the biggest entertainment spectacles in the world.

“From premium hospitality to world-class entertainment and food options, family zones and the biggest on-track program at any Formula 1® event in the world, where else would you rather be this March.

“Daniel claimed nine podiums in 2017 and we would love nothing more than for him to be standing on the top step here in Melbourne come Sunday afternoon.”
