Ricciardo’s Renault set for February launch

Daniel Ricciardo’s new Renault will be unveiled in France on February 12, when the Australian driver will be flanked by new Formula 1® teammate Esteban Ocon.

Renault announced the date with the slogan, ‘Shared Passion, One Vision’ in a social media post.

The Enstone-based team are hopeful of an improved 2020 Formula 1® season, with Ricciardo finishing ninth in the 2019 standings, his first season with Renault after crossing from Red Bull.

Ocon finished 12th in 2018 for Force India (now Racing Point) and was a reserve driver for Mercedes in 2019. He replaces German Nico Hulkenberg in the new season.

Renault, who finished fifth in the 2019 constructors’ championship, have appointed ex-McLaren and Ferrari technical chief Pat Fry in a bid to give Ricciardo a quicker car.

Ricciardo said late in 2019 that he intended to spend more time working at the Renault factory before the 2020 F1® season begins.

“I feel like I integrated myself into the team well this year, but I look back and am like, ‘I can do more’,” he said.

“I want to have a bit more presence before the season starts, before testing, but also have some ideas of things we can do together as a team to get us into the season.

“Not just technically, but as a team unit, I want to get to Barcelona [for pre-season testing] feeling like we got some momentum before the season even starts.”

Pre-season testing begins in Barcelona on February 19.

Fans in Melbourne will then get the first chance to see Ricciardo’s new Renault in competitive action at the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020.
