Dale Wood led the opening Porsche Carrera Cup Australia race at the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 from start to finish on Thursday.
The victory continued Wood’s good day, after he topped the timesheets in Thursday’s qualifying session, too.
The #100 Sonic/Polyflor car edged out Porsche Centre Brighton’s Dylan O’Keeffe and the Sonic/Bob Jane T-Marts/SRG car of Jordan Love, who finished second and third respectively.
The main race was marred by a safety car intervention that paused proceedings mid-way through.
A three-car collision was the culprit when Steve Richards, Josh Hunt and wildcard driver Joey Mawson came together at Turn 14.
Mawson was able to race on but his counterparts were not and Michael Almond also failed to finish, despite qualifying second fastest.
A puncture on Lap 1 prematurely ended Almond’s race.
Seears Workwear’s Cameron Hill finished fourth, while Porsche Centre Melbourne’s Nick McBride – who was fastest in the one and only round of practice – was fifth.
Race 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup takes place at 2:55pm on Friday afternoon.
Limited tickets are still available for the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019. The event runs from 14-17 March at Melbourne’s iconic Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
