Lewis Hamilton added a fourth Drivers’ Championship to his tally in 2017, wrapping up the title with two races to spare.
In doing so, Hamilton joined Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel as four-time winners, while he is still chasing Juan Manuel Fangio (five titles) and Michael Schumacher (seven).
Taking out nine races in 2017, Hamilton amassed 363 championship points, 46 clear of second-placed Vettel. The rivalry between the two came to a head when they made contact behind the safety car at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Since signing with Mercedes in 2013, Hamilton has only dropped out of the top three in the Drivers’ Championship once, adding three world titles to the one he won for McLaren in 2008.
Statistical immortality could await Hamilton, should his dominance of the Formula 1® landscape continue.
