After finishing tenth in the Drivers’ Championship in his first season with Renault in 2017, it is widely thought that Nico Hulkenberg is yet to reach his full potential as a driver in Formula 1®.
Reliability issues saw Hulkenberg miss six races throughout the 2017 season, and he was forced to shoulder the load for Renault, scoring 43 of the team’s 57 championship points.
Since debuting in 2009, Hulkenberg is yet to record a Formula 1® race win. For his many admirers, it has always seemed that the German was destined to be a champion as he was in three series in his earlier career, but it has never quite worked out that way.
A fluent speaker of English, thanks to his spell as an apprentice on the factory floor at Williams, the likeable Hulkenberg grabbed a sensational pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix in his debut season in 2010.
